Women in Football's former CEO Jane Purdon is to step down from the organisation’s board of directors – but will continue her association with WIF as an ambassador.
As part of the move, which is effective from 30 April 2024, Jane will also carry on her regular role as a facilitator on the Women in Football Leadership Course in partnership with Barclays.
Jane led Women in Football from September 2018 to November 2021 – a period of enormous growth for WIF in terms of both membership and income which left the organisation in a strong position for the arrival of her successor Yvonne Harrison.
Yvonne said: “Jane’s contribution to Women in Football over the years is precious and a buzz goes around the WIF team every time we hear from her. The growth she inspired as our first CEO was incredible – it’s my privilege to have been handed the baton by such a wonderful leader.
“Her presence and wise input at board meetings will be missed by all, but we’re equally delighted that Jane will carry on representing WIF as an ambassador, hopefully for many more years to come.”
WIF Chair Ebru Köksal added: “On behalf of the entire Women in Football community, I want to express our deepest gratitude for Jane’s unwavering dedication and tireless efforts during her term as Director and formerly as CEO. Her leadership has been nothing short of inspiring, and her commitment to advancing women’s participation in football has left a lasting mark.
“Jane’s vision, passion, and advocacy have paved the way for countless women to thrive in this beautiful game. Thank you, Jane, for being a great friend, true champion and a force for positive change.”
Since leaving her position as CEO, Jane has authored The Homecoming: The Lionesses and Beyond – a critically acclaimed memoir of her journey as a fan and the stunning rise of women’s football, issued in 2023 by Pitch Publishing.
Jane recently served as a member of the expert panel overseeing the UK’s government’s review of women’s football in England, chaired by Karen Carney MBE. She also chairs the Professional Game Academy Audit Company and is a member of Premiership Rugby’s Sporting Commission.
“I have enjoyed my time as a director of Women in Football," Jane said, adding: "I am looking forward to continuing to work with WIF as an ambassador."
