WOMEN IN FOOTBALL URGE SUPPORTERS TO CELEBRATE WOMEN EVERY DAY

As communities around the world celebrate International Women's Day 2023, Women in Football and its partners are urging allies to fight for gender equality all year round.

Starting today, WIF is also celebrating the contribution of inspirational women nominated by the organisation's members and online community.

The central message 'Celebrating women every day' emphasises the importance of support for women throughout the year, not just on International Women's Day.

Other messages being shared by Women in Football and its partners express solidarity with women performing a broad range of job roles across the football industry – from players and coaches to journalists, event managers and interns.

The statements will be shared across social media throughout International Women's Day, by WIF itself and by many of the organisation's partners and corporate members, including Barclays, Onside Law, PepsiCo, Mishcon de Reya and The Ability Group in Sport (TAGS)..

Meanwhile, in the run-up to IWD, members of the WIF community have been naming the specific women whose contributions to the game they value most highly. In keeping with the theme of celebrating women all year round, these nominees will then be highlighted on the WIF social media channels in the weeks ahead.

Nominations remain open for both members and non-members of Women in Football to suggest their own inspirational women in the game.

The worldwide theme of this year's IWD is #EmbraceEquity, making the point that while equality is the overall goal, equity is the means of achieving it.

Women in Football CEO Yvonne Harrison said: "International Women's Day is a vital focal point for everyone who supports gender equality. Women in Football and our partners want to extend that message of equality and remind the world that women should be celebrated every day of the year."
