Click here to sign up as a potential mentor
We can all benefit from a little support now and then, both in our personal lives and also our careers and that’s why we’ve launched our UEFA Women's EURO 2022™ mentoring programme in partnership with Heineken®.
We are looking for members of the WIF community to sign up as potential mentors for this and future WIF mentoring programmes. In contrast to the more traditional mentoring schemes, the mentees will receive support, advice and training to enable each of them to identify, connect with and engage their own mentor. However, we also want to support those who need some extra guidance by making them aware of potential mentors who are open to being approached.
For those who sign up as a potential mentor, there is no obligation to accept a request. You may be approached by multiple mentees and not have the capacity to accept more than one, or you may feel you’re not the right mentor for the person who approaches you. It’s important for a mentoring partnership to feel right for both parties.
The scheme will support the careers of almost 100 women, in particular the fantastic staff and volunteers that made the WEUROs such a roaring success. Showcasing commitment to the future of women’s football, the programme will support the tournament's legacy programme and present development opportunities to both mentors and mentees. Furthermore, mentors involved in the programme will receive mentor accreditation from Oxford Brookes University.
A special mention goes to Heineken® who will be funding the programme as part of their #GetOnside pledge to support gender equality in the game. Stephanie Dexter, Heineken® Marketing Manager, commented: “We’re thrilled to launch this mentoring programme with Women in Football that will create a legacy for years to come in the host cities of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022™ tournament.”

We believe strongly in the power of mentoring, we even held a panel discussion about it at our Be Inspired Conference in partnership with Barclays, which is available to watch here! It’s precisely why we want to hear from proactive members of the WIF community who are open to sharing their knowledge and expertise with women in the industry looking for some extra advice. What’s stopping you? You could be that source of support which helps someone to achieve their dream role, while also developing yourself on a personal level. Not to forget the certification you will receive from Oxford Brookes university for taking part.
The mentoring programme will last a minimum of three months and will comprise three sessions plus access to ongoing support through an online platform (www.wowment.app) and WhatsApp group for the mentees (with the option of also setting up a WhatsApp group for mentors if wanted).
Those taking part must be aged 18+ and be Women in Football members. If you’re not already a WIF member, you can join us for free by clicking here.
