The #GetOnside campaign for gender equality launched last year by Women in Football enters a new phase today with the launch of a short film featuring three WIF members who are already being supported through the initiative to build careers in the game.
Shivani Laddha, Mia North and Sharon Uka are among the many women to benefit from pledges made for the #GetOnside campaign, supported by WIF's lead partner Barclays, which result in positive, practical measures helping to redress the gender imbalance in the football industry.
The trio are depicted in the film – shot last month on location at Wembley Stadium – outlining the support they've received through the pledges and visualising a future where their place in the sport is "not even a thing any more – it's just normal!"
As the video goes live today, Women in Football is inviting more individuals and organisations to join the #GetOnside family and come forward with pledges of action to help level the playing field.
Through #GetOnside Sharon has undertaken a training course provided by The Player Care Group, while Shivani has received mentoring from football journalist Alison Bender, facilitated by the publisher Floodlit Dreams. Meanwhile, a pledge from social enterprise Upshot has enabled Mia – a goalkeeper for West Ham United Women's Academy, on loan to Dulwich Hamlet – to pursue coaching qualifications.
Women in Football's CEO Yvonne Harrison said: "We're delighted by the huge wave of support for gender equality in football demonstrated by the members of our #GetOnside family, and are inspired by their commitment and passion.
"It's fantastic to see that their pledges to #GetOnside are already making a real difference to the career prospects of women in the football industry – as illustrated in our wonderful new campaign film."
The new #GetOnside film is the second made by Women in Football's official media partner Shoot the Company (StC). The first was viewed 670,000 times in two weeks after it launched the campaign in September 2021.
StC Managing Director Sara Butler said: "It's been an absolute pleasure working with Women In Football to produce the next phase of the #GetOnside campaign. At Shoot the Company, we love telling stories and building campaigns that matter and few are more important than this one. We all left the shoot incredibly inspired by Shivani, Sharon and Mia, who all embody the difference that making a pledge can bring."
Yvonne Harrison added: "By sharing these stories in such an eloquent and engaging way, Shoot the Company have shown that their excellent reputation is fully deserved. Huge thanks to the StC team, from all of us at Women in Football."
Pledgers at the launch of the campaign included Barclays, Aston Villa FC, Brighton & Hove Albion FC, Everton FC, FIFPRO, the FA, Football Manager, ITV Sport, League Managers Association, PFA, Portas, Scottish FA, Sian Massey-Ellis, Sky Sports, talkSPORT, TEAM Marketing and World Football Summit. More than 130 #GetOnside pledges have been made so far, and more will be announced by Women in Football during the weeks ahead.
