What a winner! Sky Sports announces first development programme recruit – as part of its #WhatIf pledge

Annie Thomas, benefitted from Sky Sports' fantastic programme placement #WhatIf pledge

Back in the summer, Sky Sports pledged to help those that wanted break into the field of Sports content by offering up a placement programme across the Sky Sports Football team.

This incredible new scheme was to honour Sky Sports’ fantastic #WhatIf pledge: #WhatIf Sky Sports pledged to create a Women in Football placement programme for external candidates to work in various roles with the Sky Sports Football team?

The Women in Football programme offered a three-month-long paid placement on the Sky Sports Football team to three individuals, who could show their commitment and drive to work in the field of football content.

The successful applicants would work across the areas of Live Outside Broadcast, Soccer AM, Soccer Special, In-house Broadcast and digital and social channels, to give them a real taste of the world of producing content on all of the Sky Sports platforms.

Over 200 applications were received, and after an exciting assessment day at Sky Sports’ Isleworth offices, Sky Sports is delighted to confirm the first placement was awarded to Annie Thomas, a graduate of Salford University’s MA in Broadcast Journalism.

Annie has already begun her three-month placement at Sky Sports Football and said: “To be a part of such an incredible team and working on some of the most exciting sport in the world is a dream come true. It's such an important initiative to get more women working in football and I'm really proud to be a part of it!”

Samantha Mills Football Producer, Sky Sports commented: “We’re really excited to support this initiative and provide a great opportunity to three women who want to break into football production.

"I’m sure they will gain a lot of valuable insight and experience in our vibrant department and have fun along the way.”

Congratulations to Annie - everyone at Women in Football hopes you have a fantastic and enriching time on your placement!
