Nottingham Forest's City Ground stadium will host a historic match with The Senior Reggae Girlz
The Senior Reggae Girlz and Nottingham Forest Ladies will face each other at The City Ground on Sunday 28 October - the first time Jamaica's senior women's team have travelled to Europe.
The game is a celebration of the Windrush generation and of Caribbean Family Culture. A Caribbean Family Fest will be provided including Jamaican food supplied by local companies, performances by Nottingham's Reggae artists as well as special events for visiting guests from Jamaica, the wider Caribbean and the UK. This will add an extra dimension to the event and will be a celebration of Caribbean Family Culture.
Jamaica's Senior Reggae Girlz are in fine form and have won all of their Round One Women's World Cup Qualifier. They are set to play the final round of qualifiers in the USA between October 5 and 17, where they will meet Canada, Costa Rica and Cuba in Group B.
The City Ground event is expected to welcome high profile guests such as the leadership of the Jamaican Football Federation, Senior CONCACAF executives and Cabinet Minister Hon. Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, CD, MP, Jamaican Minister for Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport. The Caribbean Representatives will be headed by HE High Commissioner George Ramocan.
Speaking to the club's official website, Forest Chair Nicholas Randall said: "We are delighted that the plans for this celebratory match have received so much support and interest from many quarters.
"Our primary objective is to raise the profile of Nottingham Forest Ladies and to acknowledge and support the contribution of the Jamaican Community in Nottingham. We wish to do this in a way which involves our fans and supporters and which is inclusive and reflects the spirit of our club."
David Shelton, Nottingham Forest Ladies Chair added: "It's an incredible honour to be involved in such a pioneering event in honour of the Windrush generation. We are very grateful to Mr Marinakis, Nottingham Forest and everyone involved in putting our players and our club at the heart of such an historic and symbolic occasion.
"For our players to walk out of the City Ground tunnel rubbing shoulders with international players and then playing against them is something which they, and all involved with Forest Ladies, will remember forever.
"We hope that our local community will come together to see the match and create the kind of fun, carnival celebration we associate with Caribbean sport".
Ticket prices and further details of the Caribbean Fan Fest and its connected attractions will be published in due course on the official Nottingham Forest website here.
