Have you got a real passion for sport/football and experience of promoting BAME football? Do you want to play an active role and be a part of the decision-making structure at The FA?
If the answer is 'Yes', then this could be the perfect opportunity for you to get involved and make a difference because The FA is seeking to appoint an independent member of The FA Council with the remit to represent BAME football communities on the Council.
The FA Council is part of the decision making structure of The FA with constitutionally defined powers which enables it to manage and regulate the game of football in England. They are continually seeking to ensure that the council better reflects the inclusive and diverse nature of English football.
This position, which is appointed by The FA's Inclusion Advisory Board, will see the successful candidate be required to:
- To debate issues, reflecting the views of the BAME community, whilst acting in the best interests of The FA
- To accurately and positively disseminate information from Council to your constituents, in this case the Inclusion Advisory Board (having regard to any confidential information which is provided to you)
- To act in an ambassadorial role at local, regional, national and international events and in accordance with The FA’s Code of Conduct.
- To attend meetings of Council and other committees, sub-committees and working groups on which you serve
- To participate constructively in and positively promote the good governance of The FA
- To provide relevant expertise, skill and knowledge
- To contribute to debate and the decision-making process in order to resolve issues and further develop the game
- Skills, Knowledge and Experience
The following attributes are desirable across the membership of The FA’s Council:
- A broad knowledge of the issues and the aspirations of the constituency that you represent;
- A sound understanding of the modern game of football in its various forms and of the structures and processes within football;
- The ability to clearly represent the views of those that you represent;
- The ability to report back to constituents in a timely manner that can be easily understood;
- The ability to speak, present and network in an ambassadorial role.
- The ability to mix with diverse groups of people in a wide variety of situations;
- The ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with others (including fellow Council Members, FA Staff and colleagues from across the football family);
- The ability to challenge the present to build the future, whilst always being respectful of the views and the knowledge and experience of others;
- A willingness to act in the best interests of The FA without regard to personal interest or benefit.
Time Commitment
The level of commitment Council Members are required to make largely depends on the number of committees to which they are appointed.
As a minimum, Council Members should attend each Council meeting; there are usually 5 per year. Meetings are usually on a weekday, commencing at 11am at Wembley Stadium. oard and committee meetings are held at differing intervals but are usually on a weekday at Wembley Stadium.
Key Selection Criteria
- A passion for sport/football and experience of promoting BAME football
- Experience of influencing at board or senior executive level and a track record of proven success in supporting BAME communities within football and bring an independent perspective to enhance decision making
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- A visionary thinker with the ability to think strategically
- Strong experience of working within BAME football
- Enthusiastic champion for equality, diversity and inclusion
- Ability to work collaboratively whilst constructively challenging and managing conflict
- Understanding of sports development and football at all levels.
