Everton and Wales international Angharad James will join the commentary line-up for the men's Premier League fixture against Huddersfield Town as the club's SECOND pledge to support the #WhatIf campaign.

Earlier this year, Everton become the first Premier League club to launch their away kit by using their women’s team and this second pledge hands Angharad an opportunity to share her insights to supporters tuning in to the game from around the world.

The pledge, “#WhatIf Everton Ladies and Wales international midfielder Angharad James joins the Club’s commentary team for the Premier League fixture against Huddersfield Town?” will see the women's 2017-18 player of the season link up with regular match commentator Darren Griffiths to provide commentary and analysis on the Blues’ clash with the Terriers as well as helping continue to raise the profile of girls and women in football.

Angharad is currently away on international duty preparing for the crunch Women’s World Cup qualifier against England and a win for the Red Dragons will secure a first-ever place at the World Cup.

Ahead of her commentary debut, she said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I enjoy the analytical side of the game and I always enjoy putting my point across, so it will be great to do so at Goodison Park on a first-team matchday.

“I’ve listened to a few of the official commentaries when I’ve been away and I am delighted to get the opportunity to make a contribution as I know that we will broadcasting to Evertonians all over the world.”

Everton have outlined their commitment to Women in Football and they are the first Premier League club to actively show their support with two pledges this season.

#WhatIf is an innovative campaign with the objective of empowering businesses, celebrities and members of the public to identify ways that they can act to contribute to an improvement for women and girls within the football industry, however large or small.

Darren Griffiths, Everton’s Broadcast and Publications Manager, said: “We supported the #WhatIf campaign when we invited the Ladies team to launch our new away kit for this season and this is just an extension of that commitment. More and more female pundits are making first-class contributions to football coverage and I am sure that our listeners will enjoy Angrahad’s views and analysis.

“We get feedback from Blues all over the world via our interactive match commentaries and we were inundated during the non-televised Carabao Cup tie earlier this week. We are looking forward to welcoming Angharad into the commentary box.”

Launched by Women in Football to mark our 10-year anniversary, the #WhatIf campaign has already seen support from a host of influential organisations such as Sky Sports, SPORF, Twitter and Forza Football, with pledges ranging from “WhatIf Women in Football had its own emoji on Twitter” to “#WhatIf Sky Sports committed to including female talent as studio pundits on Gillette Soccer Specials from the 2018/19 season onwards”.

Darren and Angharad will offer unashamedly Blue-tinted commentary on Everton’s home fixture with Huddersfield Town and will be on hand to deliver shout-outs and respond to questions sent in by fans using #EFCLIVE on social media.
