Marieanne Spacey-Cale MBE has been appointed as Southampton's new Head of Girls and Women’s Football Technical Department.
Since hanging up her boots at the end of a glittering playing career, former Arsenal and England star Marieanne has attained her UEFA Pro License, assisted with The Lionesses set-up, taken responsibility for England Women's U23s and also supported the development of female coaches more broadly across England.
In her new role at Southampton, Marieanne will be responsible for managing all Girls and Women’s Coaching and Performance staff, as well as overseeing the development of the club's highly successful RTC programme.
Speaking to the club's official website, Marieanne Spacey-Cale said: "From the moment I walked into the club the excitement has continued to rise.
"Listening to the people, the plans for the future and the potential impact that this club can have on women's and girls’ football, not just in the region, but in England and beyond, is fantastic.
"This is an opportunity to be part of a project that has got a solid foundation, but like anything, we'll have to grow and build to become something bigger and better.
"I'm excited for the future of women's football here."
On a busy day at Southampton, the club also confirmed its launch of a new International Development Programme (IDP), which is geared towards providing those talented players leaving the RTC at the age of 16 with an opportunity to succeed in the women's game and the continued chance to represent Southampton.
Fully integrated into Staplewood Campus, alongside the first-team and Academy, the IDP will utilise the expertise and resource structure of the club's Football Development and Support Centre, including Sports Science and Medical, Psychology, Scouting and Recruitment and Performance Analysis.
