Pauline Hamill has spoken of her "pride and delight" following her appointment as Youth Performance Pathway Manager and Women’s U19s head coach, replacing Gareth Evans, who had been in charge for four years.
Pauline enjoyed an illustrious international playing career during which she won 141 caps and scored 29 goals. She was the first Scottish woman to become a centurion for her country and embarked on her coaching career with the Women's U17s in 2010 after retiring from international football in 2010, leading the team to two European Championships in 2013 and earlier this year in 2017.
“I am delighted to take charge of the Scotland Women’s Under-19s," said Pauline. “I know a lot of the players through my previous roles with the association and can’t wait to help them continue to develop.
“There are a lot of young promising players who have recently come through the age ranks such as Erin Cuthbert who impressed for the national team at Euro 2017.
“We have a tough challenge ahead in October in our Elite Qualifying round across in Hungary, against three strong teams but we will be well prepared for the games.”
Current Scotland Women's National Coach Shelley Kerr believes that Pauline, who is currently undergoing her UEFA Pro Licence, will be a huge asset.
“Pauline is an excellent coach and has done a fantastic job with the U17s in the past," she added. “She has been instrumental in developing our most talented female youth players and has experience of working with all youth squads in the past, guiding them through their performance journey.
“Pauline knows the players well and will be able to hit the ground running ahead of the upcoming matches as the team aim to qualify for their second successive European Championships.
“She has a great depth of knowledge about the women’s game in Scotland and is ideally suited to develop the U19s and continue the good work done by Gareth Evans.”
Scotland Women’s U19s have recently returned from the European Championships in Northern Ireland where they narrowly missed out on qualification to the semi-finals.
Hamill's first competitive matches in charge are two friendlies away to Croatia in September followed by an October trip to Hungary for the Euro Qualifying round where Scotland will play three matches against the hosts, Armenia and Turkey.
