Alive and Kicking host first ever women's tournament - get involved!

Alive and Kicking Ambassador Rachel Yankey

Alive and Kicking have their sights set on making their ever-popular annual five-a-side fund-raiser bigger and better than ever before – by including a women’s tournament for the very first time.

The tournament, now in its third successive year, will be held at Shoreditch PowerLeague on Friday 26th May from 1.30 – 6.30pm.

Former England international and Arsenal star Rachel Yankey OBE is an ambassador for Alive and Kicking, a UK charity set up to support not-for-profit social enterprises in Africa.

Through the manufacture of sports balls in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana Alive and Kicking aims to generate ethical employment for adults, raise awareness about preventable diseases such as HIV and malaria among young people and provide robust and affordable sports balls for disadvantaged children

CEO Glenn Cummings said: "One of Alive and Kicking's key aims is to provide equal access to sport for all.

"We are delighted, therefore, that for the first time we will have a women's tournament at our annual five-a-side fundraiser and that we can support the promotion of the women's game not only in the UK but the rest of the world.

“All of the proceeds from the tournament will be put towards supporting our activities in Africa, and we're excited that this year the event will be bigger than ever with more than 25 teams (both men and women) coming together to compete.”

The tournament has grown year on year in support of their charitable work in Africa and this year there will be more than 25 teams competing for the trophies, which have been hand-carved in Kenya.

Any women's teams that would like to get involved can email info@aliveandkicking.org for further information.
