Women in Football: Inspiring Confidence Event

A sell-out audience attended Women in Football’s first ever event at the Premier League, hosted by Jacqui Oatley MBE, in partnership with IMG.

The evening was themed around confidence in the workplace and there was standing room only at the back as psychologist Chris Gooder - from Professor Steve Peters’ renowned sports performance firm Chimp Management - gave a fascinating presentation on the psychological issues that can hold us back in our careers.

Chris, who has worked with Premier League teams such as Arsenal and Southampton, outlined Peters’ theory on how our inner chimp can mess with our confidence at work – a problem suffered as much by elite footballers, as those working behind the scenes.

A stellar panel of industry WiFs – broadcasters Kelly Cates and Karthi Gnagnasegaram, UK Sport’s Head of Governance Jane Purdon and agent Mel Chappell – then joined Jacqui Oatley to share their career journeys in relation to confidence, followed by a lively Q&A from audience members.
